The Zodia Aquarius Saga
Chapter 1:  Meet Sailor Aquarius - the Reluctant Scout

To any other's eyes, Kyata Aslma was a normal thirteen-year-old girl. She had beautiful fair skin, light blue hair, and a slender figure. She was sitting under a tree and reading a comic book under the glair of synthetic sunlight.

Chi, the white fox, saw much more in Kyata. But she was no normal fox. Chi's light blue eyes seemed to penetrate straight to you soul, and, in reality, they did. Her strangest feature was her ability to distort time and space. A moonstone ornament that hung on a thick silver chain around her neck.

Chi had been observing Kyata for many days. She felt strange, powerful vibes coming from her. Chi had been searching all her life for a girl like Kyata, and this was no easy task. There were only 12 girls in the universe like her.

Chi knew that the time was ripe to reveal Kyata's true destiny to her.

~*~*~*~*~

It was nine in the evening when Kyata decided to retire to her room. She lived in a mansion with her mother, father, servants, and many cats. Kyata bid good night to her parents before she went to bed.

Kyata threw on some night clothes and sat down on her bed with a book. Her 3 favorite cats, Aphrodite, Apollo, and Aries, almost instantly surrounded her. Then Kyata noticed something moving in the far corner of her room.

She got out of bed and walked over. "A white fox!" she shrieked with delight. "Wow, this is so cool. I wonder how hard it was to find one." Kyata had instantly assumed that it was a gift from her parents for some outstanding performance. "What should I call you?"

To Kyata's surprise the fox answered her, "My name is Chi, thank you."

"You talk?" Kyata gasped in astonishment.

"Yes, I just did, didn't I?" Chi remarked.

"And I can safely assume you're not a gift from my parents either."

"Correct again! My, what a bright girl. Let's get down to business. I have an offer for you."

~*~*~*~*~

"OK," Kyata recalled, "You're telling me that if I accept some stone you'll give me super powers."

"Yes," Chi approved. "I will come back for you in two years, when you will be old enough to use your powers responsibly. 'I'm sorry,' Chi thought, 'If I didn't ask you to do this when you were young and naive then you would never except your fate.'

"Yeah, this is way cool! I'm going to be a super heroine!" Kyata said excitedly.

"Then you will take the sapphire? There is no turning back after you accept it."

"Of course I will!" Kyata absolutely couldn't wait.

The moonstone that hung around Chi's neck began to glow. Then a milky-blue star sapphire materialized in midair. Kyata reached out and delicately took the stone, which was roughly the size of a penny.

"Remember, I will return for you in two years," Chi said before she jumped out Kyata's window.

"Wait Chi!" Kyata yelled after her, but it was too late. The white fox had gone.

~*~*~*~*~

Two years quickly slipped away, and Kyata had passed the point between childhood and adulthood. She was just as lovely as ever and she had become much more brilliant.

Kyata had all but forgotten her encounter with Chi. If the memory ever did happen to arise from her subconscious Kyata simply regarded it as a strange dream. The stone she had received was buried deep in her jewelry box.

~*~*~*~*~

It was a cold night, which was a common effect of the Dome around the city. A white fox, more specifically a fox named Chi, was creeping through the orchard behind the Aslma estate. When the fox had gotten near the mansion she disappeared. This was one of Chi's many abilities. She reappeared in Kyata's bedroom. Chi jumped up onto Kyata's bed and waited.

~*~*~*~*~

Kyata finished supper with her parents. She had a pleasant dinner, and was ready for a relaxing evening. Kyata strolled down the hall. She was dreaming of a long swim in the pool, and she nearly bumped into her mother's favorite vase on the way.

Kyata entered her bedroom. She didn't notice Chi until she pulled out her bathing suit.

"This can't be real," Kyata said. "I thought it was all just a dream." Kyata began to feel dizzy and disoriented.

"Oh, it's very real Kyata," Chi said. "I hope you kept the star sapphire?"

"Sapphire…?" Kyata tried to remember as she sat down on her bed next to Chi. "Yes, I know where it is."

"Good. Please bring it to me," Chi requested.

Kyata got up and walked to her vanity, where her jeweler box was sitting open. She sifted through her jewelry until she found the milky-blue stone in the bottom of her drawer. Kyata noticed it had grown to the size of a quarter.

"Here it is," Kyata said as she picked it up.

Chi jumped of the bed and in an instant she changed from a fox to a young woman. She was wearing a plain whit dress and her beautiful white hair flowed down her back. The moonstone pendant was still around her neck.

"Chi?" Kyata didn't understand what was happening.

Chi took the star sapphire from Kyata and placed it in her left hand. She waved her right hand over the stone, and it changed. It was now set in a silver star. Chi strung the star on a matching silver chain, and put it around Kyata's neck.

The stone glowed as it began to sap away all Kyata's impure energy. She began to tremble with fear.

"Do not be afraid Kyata," Chi tried to comfort Kyata. "Now close your eyes."

Kyata obeyed and shut her eye's tight. Chi leaned forward until her forehead touched Kyata's. After and moment there was a flash and Kyata disappeared.

~*~*~*~*~

When Kyata opened her eyes she found herself at the end of a gigantic hall with only one door, at the far end. Kyata walked towards the door. She didn't care or even remember anything about the evening's previous events, she just wanted to find out what was behind the door.

Kyata finally reached the door. Behind it she found an ancient man sitting cross legged on the floor.

"Hello young one," he welcomed Kyata.

Kyata courteously bowed. "Hello, teacher."

"Would you like some riddles?" he asked.

"Um… I guess so," Kyata replied.

"Then let us begin; what has a big mouth but doesn't say a word?"

Kyata took a seat on the floor and thought hard about the answer. "A river?"

"Correct! Another; what color would you paint the sun and the wind?"

This puzzled Kyata. She knew the answer wasn't as easy as yellow and white. Then it hit her. "The sun rose and the wind blue."

"One more; what is the beginning of the end, and the end of time?

"Oh, I know this one," Kyata said smugly. "It's E!"

The old man disappeared and Kyata was once more at the end of a long hall.

~*~*~*~*~

This hall was so long that Kyata could see no end to it, but the hall was straight and narrow. Kyata walked forward, having the disability to go backwards or to either side.

Eventually the hall began to change. The walls were draped with vines and the floor was covered with dirt. The ceiling suddenly gave way to a cloudy gray sky. Kyata realized that she was at the beginning of a hedge maze.

Nearby a little girl sat with her back to the hedges. She was wearing a pink lacy dress, and the poor child was crying her eyes out.

Kyata spoke to the girl, "What's wrong?"

"My kitty ran into the maze," the girl sobbed, "and I'm too scared to go in after her."

"I'll go in with you. Don't worry, we'll find you kitty." Kyata took the girl by the hand and walked into the maze.

"What if we get lost?"

"Like i said, don't worry, we won't get lost." The maze was a lot bigger than Kyata had ever imagined. Kyata and the girl wandered in the maze together for hours. The girl talked to Kyata about her cat and her parents and siblings. Kyata listened patiently as the walked deeper into the maze.

When Kyata and the girl finally reached the center of the maze they found her cat, who had ran up to the top of a large tree.

"Oh, poor Kitty! How will she ever get down?" The girl cried. "Can you get her down?" she begged Kyata.

"Alright, no prob. Just calm down." Kyata had no idea how the cat got up the tree, seeing as there were no branches that even Kyata could easily reach. Kyata looked around to see if there was anything in the clearing that she could use. Kyata found a pile of logs the size of footstools.

She piled three of the logs on top of each other. Then Kyata managed to climb on top of them without falling over. She could now reach the lowest branch. She climbed onto it, and quickly climbed to the next. She eventually got to the highest branch in the tree, where the cat had conveniently perched. Kyata managed to grab the cat without scaring it too much. She climbed back down and gave the cat back to the girl.

"Oh thank you a thousand times over! Poor Kitty must have been so scared. I wish I could repay you some how!" Then the little girl ran off into the maze, holding her cat like a baby.

"Wait, please! You can help!" Kyata called. The girl was long gone, and a dense fog engulfed Kyata.

~*~*~*~*~

When the fog drifted away found herself not again at the end of a hall, but in a large chamber. Kyata couldn't see any walls or the ceiling.

Suddenly seven shadowy figures rose out of the floor around her. They drew swords out of thin air and one step forward. Kyata didn't know what to do. The figure tried to attack her, but Kyata dodged out of the way. The others ran at her, but Kyata was quicker. One of the shadows managed to cut her arm. Blood soaked her sleeve. The fact that Kyata found most curious was that everything she learned in her self-defense classes didn't affect the creatures.

Then, three of the shadows charged Kyata from three different directions at once. Kyata was frozen with fear. At the last minute when all three were ready to strike her she ducked. They hit each other and disappeared the exact same way they had appeared.

"Well now I know how to kill these things," Kyata said to herself. There were four shadows left. She decided to take them two at a time. It worked. She got one to chase her and another charged her. She jumped and flipped over the charging shadow just before it attacked her. "Two left. This will be a piece of cake."

Kyata didn't have to do anything but get between the shadows. They both ran at her with their swords raised. Kyata slid through one of the shadows legs, and the shadows sliced each other in half.

There was another bright flash and Kyata was transported once again.

~*~*~*~*~

Now Kyata was in some sort of ancient temple. The most interesting feature was a beautiful fountain in the center of the room. The water was so pure and still that it looked like a mirror. There was another woman there that reminded Kyata very much of herself. She had dark blue hair that swept the floor, and she was dressed in a blue toga.

"Hello Kyata," She said. "You passed the trails with excellence."

"Who are you?" Kyata had a million more questions to ask, but none of them made it out of her mouth.

"I am the Water Bearer, Sailor Zodia Aquarius. You should know that," the woman said. "It is your destiny to become the next Sailor Zodia Aquarius."

"What? I don't understand. What is a Sailor Zodia?"

"They protect the universe. I was the last Sailor Aquarius. What you see of my now is a shadow of my previous self. Long ago the original Sailor Zodia warred with a powerful enemy, and they were victorious. Unfortunately they all died soon after because they had exhausted all their energy. All of them passed their duties and powers onto my generation of Sailor Zodia, and now I give my powers unto you," she explained.

"What do I do with these powers?" Kyata was becoming very nervous.

"Isn't it obvious? You need to protect your world with your life from whatever enemy comes your way. I sent Chi to help you," the woman said.

"But Chi asked me to accept when I was thirteen years old! I didn't have enough sense to know what I was getting into! If she had asked me tonight, or when ever tonight was, I would never have accepted!"

"I told her that she should use any means to get you to accept the sapphire. For that I am regretful. I thought Chi knew better than to trick you like that. Well, there's no changing now, you didn't really have a decision in the first place."

"You mean I never had a choice!?" Kyata wasn't nervous anymore, she was furious.

"No, I'm afraid not." The woman looked very sorry. "I guess you don't have to finish the process. It would be an regrettable loss though." Then the woman raised an interesting question; "Were you happy?"

"What?"

"Were you happy? With your old life. I mean, truly happy."

Kyata thought hard. 'Was I? I can't even remember.' "I guess not."

"Then do this for the rest of the universe. You could be wasting your life away, or you could be ensuring the future of your race. You decide."

"Alright," Kyata finally agreed.

The woman walked over to the fountain and scooped some water up into a small cup. She anointed Kyata's forehead with the water. Kyata looked into the fountain, and the mark of Aquarius was burning brightly on her brow, and that wasn't the only thing that had changed. Kyata was wearing a different outfit too.

There was a blue and pink mini-skirt, lots of jewelry, and a tube top with a bow. Every thing was decked with a beautiful lace. It was an outfit that she had only dreamed of ever seeing.

After that event Kyata's memory became very foggy, but she remember one fact as clear as crystal. The woman had told her. "Whenever you need to use your powers hold your sapphire with both of your hands and say 'Zodia Aquarius Power'.

~*~*~*~*~

Kyata was sitting on her bed with Aphrodite on her lap. Aprodite was playfully pawing at Kyata's star sapphire, which was dangling between her hands, the chain was carelessly tangled around her fingers. Kyata tried to recall everything from her exciting evening. Although she felt overwhelmed and couldn't remember much correctly, Kyata knew one thing for sure. Life would never be the same again.
