Zodia Aries Saga
Chapter Four

20th of June, year 3058

Princess Mercedes and the queen had a meeting with Prince Kinoshi this morning, and she had myself and another one of her maids-in-waiting Saranika, of whom I have become quite fond. Anyway, while in this meeting I tried to avoid Kinoshi's gorgeous eye's, but this was much more difficult than I had expected. Mercedes noticed my interest, and so did Saranika. They brought it to my attention afterwards. I recorded the conversation;

Mercedes; "Milagre, do you like Prince Kinoshi?"

Saranika; "You made a point not to look at him through the whole meeting. It was very obvious to the trained eye. Believe me, the Princess makes sure her maids-in-waiting are trained to spot lovers and you two were sending off huge spotlights signaling each other."

Me; "What are you talking about?"

Mercedes; "You know Milagre. You know very well what we are speaking of."

Saranika; "When did you know?"

Me; "Well last night I was up late, and he found me in the hall and we.... talked. For a while."

Mercedes; "About what did you converse?"

Me; "Love."

Saranika; "My gosh."

Mercedes; "Milagre."

Me; "I want to tell him how I feel, but I...."

It was so embarrassing, but also liberating to lift from my chest the chains of secrecy. I will tell Kinoshi how I feel about him tonight. I have to, or else I will soon lose my ability to confidently tell him, for I will be overflowing with emotions of love. How could I ever live with myself if I didn't make him understand? I can foretell that this will be the most difficult of tasks for I will have great difficulty forcing the words past my lips, but I know that afterwards I will profit. For then the emotions will not dwell inside me; they will be free. I unfortunately also predict a longing. A longing to be with Kinoshi, and then a separation from him. I prey to the goddess of love that my future will be woven into a fine tapestry of well being and happiness. If my prayers are answered than all shall work out well, if not then I hope my life will not be completely undesirable.

-Milagre

Serenissima waited on the side of the fountain in the courtyard. The wind was blowing, and it tossed around many light pink petals of the flowering trees, which were in abundance there. Serenissima loved the smell of the flowers, which looked an uncanny amount like magnolias. She waited there for a few minutes, and as promised Prince Kinoshi soon appeared and joined her appeared.

"Hello Miligre, and how might you be this fine evening?" he greeted her. "My, what a lovely night."

She got up and strolled over to him. "Lovely indeed. I particularly love these flowers. What variety are they?"

"They are called Tranquility Blossoms. In ancient times the people of this planet used them to calm those who were delusional from fever of other illnesses." Kinoshi gingerly plucked one of the blossoms and tucked it behind Serenissima's ear.

"Kinoshi, there is something I wish to talk about," she said as calmly as possible.

"Yes, Milagre?"

"Well, I.... After last night I think I realized something. Before I tell you I want to let you know that I could care less that you're a prince and what your response to this is. I just need to tell you."

"Please tell me. You have my undivided attention," he said as he reassuringly took Serenissima's hand, and her emotions for him were renewed and stronger than ever.

"I.... I think I'm in love with you," she said quietly.

"What?" he responded with amazement, and then realization. "Milagre, I don't know what to say."

"All you have to say is either I do too or just buzz off. Please tell me now, for if you wait too long my childish dreams will shatter like a fragile glass swan sailing upon a troubled sea near rocky shores."

He wrapped his arms around Serenissima, and she did the same to him. In the soft orange light of the moons the two young lovers kissed for the first time, and after they sat together on the fountain's edge. She leaned against him, and Kinoshi responded by taking her into his arms. Together they sat until the palace bell struck the ripe hour of 15 hours past daybreak.

Kinoshi let go of Serenissima and stood up. "I'm sorry," he said to her. "I really do love you, but you must understand that I have a duty. A duty to my people, and I can't love you for you are just a peasant. I know this is harsh for you, and I as well, but it just can't be this way."

The words were on the tip of Serenissima's tongue. She had an almost unleashed desire to say to Kinoshi; "I'm not Milagre! It's all a lie! I'm really Princess Serenissima! Now sweep me off my feet and save my kingdom like in all the old folk tales." She controlled herself and struggled ashore from her raging river of emotions. She diverted this river, and it escaped her as flowing tears of sorrow.

Just as the first drops trickled down her fair cheeks, her small pink star sapphire pendant escaped from underneath the chest of her dress and it began to softly emit a pulsing light. Serenissima quickly hid it with her hands, turned, and ran as swiftly as her delicate feet would carry her. She flew to her shared sleeping chamber and as rapidly as she could she yanked one her nightdress and slid into her awaiting bed. She cried, silently the tears dripped down and wetted her silken pillow, and she clutched her pendant and the small Tranquility Blossom to her chest. Saffron and Sophia were both aware in their beds next to Serenissima's, and they also wept for their princess.

Prince Kinoshi still stood at the fountain. An utter sadness churned deep within him, for he knew that it was not his rejection of his love for Milagre that had driven her away. It was something deeper, something that stirred within her that wanted to be revealed but was again and again pushed away. He wanted to tell her that everything was fine, and he wanted to hold her and kiss away her tears, but he knew that it was much to late now.

And her glowing pendant, it reminded him of some ancient prophecy that would not come to mind. Kinoshi realized that he would have to find Milagre out and understand her unusual game. He had little idea what the previous goings on meant, but he was sure that something was about to happen. An urgent feeling inside told him that he needed to find out what was going on as soon as possible, for if the ruthless Council of Sappho did before he, Milagre would be in over her head.
