Between The Sixth and The Seventh

By Wendy Olson

Hello! I’m Wendy Duet. I am one half of Sailors Gemini. The other half is my sister Mindy. I’m giving Mojo a break this time because this doesn’t have any new sailors in it. Also because he wasn’t there. This is a story that happened between finding Sailor Libra and Sailor Sagittarius.

Rosa Balanza and Bella Scorpius are the best cooks I have ever met at the time. You would think that this would draw them together. It would have the only thing is, they like to fight about whose country’s food is better. Rosa says Spain and Bella says Italy. I don’t want to argue but I love Italian food best. My favorite food is Angel Hair Spaghetti.

To help them decide the girls and I decided to have Rosa and Bella do a cook off. The judges are going to be Percy and Hank, that way it won’t be biased. Cleo has Home Ect. and she borrowed the classroom for us. Cleo has a way of always getting her way. I think that is because she doesn’t back down until they say yes.

All of the seven girls plus the two boys went down to the Home Ect. Room. Before we left Mindy whispered to Mojo that we would bring him back food. He was upset that he couldn’t go. He couldn’t go because he might talk and the boys would hear.

The room was huge and had a whole lot of space for both girls to cook. I have never been good at cooking. I hate it. Last time I took a cooking class I nearly took off my finger cutting an onion.

"Let’s flip a coin to see who goes first!" Percy said.

"Good idea!" Hank said and stood to his feet. He dug in his pockets for a while but he didn’t have a coin. Mindy threw him a quarter. "Call it in the air!" he said as he prepared to throw it.

"Me?" asked Rosa.

"Go ahead." Bella told her.

Hank then tossed the coin in the air. "Heads!" Rosa said. The coin came down and Hank caught it and flipped it over.

"Sorry, tails. Bella you go first." Hank said.

Bella got out her cooking utensils and food and said, "I’m going to make my favorite, and my best dish, Manicotti with cheese." After that Bella got cooking.

Bella was wonderful to watch. I’ve never thought cooking could be entertaining, but this was. Once she began to cook the food it started to make the room smell great. A kitchen isn’t a kitchen until it smells of food.

Bella also got into it. It was like the food was her canvas and she was painting one of her great paintings. It was always fun to watch her paint. I wonder if I look like that when I’m writing a song or when I’m playing the guitar?

The Manicotti took about an hour to make. After it was done she served it to the boys. Bella did make us some to. It was wonderful! I so love Italian food. Maybe I was an Italian in a past life or something.

"We will confer and then give you a point value from 1 to 10. Whoever has the most points at the end wins." Percy said.

"What do we win?" Rosa asked.

"Everyone’s respect! That or the thought that your country’s food is better." Hank told her.

The boys then talked to themselves for about 10 minutes. It was cute to watch them get so into it. When they were done Percy said. "We give you a seven! Now it is your turn Rosa."

"I’m going to make Paella." Said Rosa as she got all of ingredients ready.

"What’s in that?" questioned Hank.

"Well, lots of things but mostly chicken, prawns and mussels with rice." She spoke while she began cooking.

"Ewww!" Mindy and I said in unison. We don’t really like seafood.

"Hey, don’t be mean!" the other girls told us.

Once Rosa began to cook she looked like she was in a dance. She was so graceful when she moved. Cooking was a dance with food, wonderful and beautiful. Both girls are very good at this I don’t know who will win.

Soon Rosa’s food’s smell covered the Manicotti smell. I didn’t really like that smell. It smelled like fish. The only seafood my sister and I can stomach is tunafish. I mostly like chicken.

"I’m done." Rosa said after about another hour. She handed the food to the boys and the extra to us. Mindy and I declined.

The boys ate and then they deliberated once again. This time it took them about 15 minutes to decided. Percy told us, "We give you a six. I’m sorry but it was just a little too spicy for us. It was really good though."

"Oh, well I think this was fun anyway!" Bella hugged Rosa as she spoke.

"Yeah, just because you won!" Rosa was angry. She threw her food at Bella.

"Food Fight!" Cleo yelled. It was hysteria! All of us were throwing the food at each other. We all laughed while we threw.

After about 20 minutes of this the teacher came in. "What is all of this?" she yelled.

We all stopped dead in our tracks. Every single one of us was covered in food. We looked like we fell into a dumpster. None of us knew what to say.

Finally Cleo said, "We’re sorry Mrs. Hansen. We will clean this up."

"Of course you will. I better not see an ounce of food on this floor. Cleo, never ask to borrow this room again." The teacher yelled then left the room in a huff.

Once she was gone we all started to laugh. We couldn’t help it, it was so funny. After a while Esa said, "Come on you guys we better get to cleaning!"

"Yeah, with all nine of us it shouldn’t take too long." Shelly agreed.

It still took us a while to get calmed down but once we did we cleaned the room. Shelly was right is only took about 30 minutes to clean our mess. After we were done all of us went back to our own dorm rooms.

"What happened to you? Where’s my leftovers?" questioned Mojo.

"Nothing and there isn’t any leftovers!" Mindy and I said together and then burst into laughter. I took a shower soon as I stopped laughing.
