~Before you read this story I’m going to give you some information on it. This story is set in between SuperS and Stars manga version (I haven’t seen all of the anime, but I’ve read all of the manga. So, I’m writing what I know). This means the sailors are all eternal. Okay, now I’m sure New Year’s Eve doesn’t fall here, but that’s all right! Concerning the Japanese New Year: all the facts that I used I found on the Internet this includes the game. I’m not sure if they are all true or not. If I have any of them wrong I’m very sorry. Also I’m using English names for the inners and Japanese names for the outers. I’m just used to them from reading the manga. Hello my name is Setsuna Meioh. I’m otherwise known as Sailor Pluto. I’m the senshi of time from the outer solar system with the blessings of Pluto, planet of the underworld. My first mission was to protect the Door of Time. Now that I have been reborn my mission is to help protect the Prince and Princess and the people of Earth.

This story takes place during New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Eve has never been that special to me. I have had many of them, all of them alone. This one is different I was spending it with my friends. Still for some reason I had had strange feelings all day. I didn’t tell the others. I didn’t want to worry them.

All ten of us decided to help out Raye’s grandfather. We all were acting as shrine maidens who take offerings for fortunes and we were also selling charms. All of us were wearing the traditional white kimonos.

At dinnertime we took a dinner break. Darien then arrived to eat with us. He brought along Luna, Artemis and Diana. Lita made us all kinds of wonderful food. Of course she made us toshikoshi soba or buckwheat noodles. They ensure prosperity and longevity in the New Year.

After dinner Mina and Serena didn’t want to work anymore. Their favorite New Year’s program was coming on TV. It is called Kohaku uta gassen or Red and White Song Festival. This program is where the most popular songs and singers of the past year perform. Raye told us it was okay. There weren’t as many people at the shrine anymore.

Mina and Serena sat to watch. Haruka, Michiru, Darien and I drank some Champagne. The rest of the girls had sparkling apple juice. Ami was reading a book while Lita cooked us some more food. Small Lady and Hotaru read mangas with Diana. Luna and Artemis were curled up asleep on Raye’s bed. The rest of us also watched the TV.

Once it neared midnight Serena told Darien of her plan. She had heard in America and other places it is very good luck to kiss your true love at midnight. Darien never seemed to like displaying his affection in front of the rest of us, but he said okay. This upset Small Lady. She wanted to kiss him instead. Hotaru asked her about Helios and she decided that it was okay for Serena and Darien to kiss at midnight.

Soon midnight was fast approaching. We all got ready with confetti and noisemakers. I could hear Raye’s grandfather ringing the shrine’s bell. He will ring it 8 times before midnight and 100 times afterward. It is for the 108 sins.

Haruka, Michiru and I were ready to toast with our Champagne. Ami was still reading a book when Lita came in with some snacks. Then Lita went to Mina for some confetti. Hotaru and Small Lady had ready their noisemakers. Serena and Darien were ready for their kiss.

"9…8…7…6" we all yelled.

That’s when I felt something really weird. No one else seemed to notice, well no one that is except Raye. She turned and looked at me. Her eyes had an expression of "What is that?"

"5…4…3…2" Serena and Darien’s lips were almost touching. That’s when everything stopped. Everyone was frozen just as they were. Haruka and Michiru had their glasses close together. Lita and Mina were just staring to dump confetti on Ami’s head. Hotaru and Small Lady’s noisemakers were almost being used. Raye was still looking in my direction. I walked over to the confetti that was hanging in the air. I picked a piece out of the air.

I was the only one not affected. I could tell that someone had stopped time. It wasn’t me. I was not allowed to use Time Stop without giving up my life. This meant someone was messing with the Door of Time.

There was complete silence when I headed for the park. The air was stiff and still. As I walked everyone and everything was stopped. Cars seemed to be parked in the roads. It was very strange. The park was the way to get to the fourth dimension. Once in the park I transformed. "Pluto Crystal Power Make-Up!" I called to transform. I was in my new eternal form.

Once I was my sailor form I held up my Garnet Scepter and said the words to open the fourth dimension. "I call all knowing God of time, the father of the guardian Chronos! Lead me and protect me! Send me the path of light!" Soon the fourth dimension opened up. It was bright light and fog.

It didn’t take me very long to find the Door of Time. It was once my home. I looked at the door and it was fine. Nothing had happened to it. "That’s strange." I said to myself.

Then my eyes closed shut. I was remembering something. Queen Serenity was telling me my duties and the taboos. Then she told me something that I had not remembered. "Lastly my dear Pluto, the God of Time may one day come back for this door. It is not his responsibility any longer. Chronos, will not be the same. He will want to rule time in the wrong way. You will have to stop him no matter what." She explained to me.

"Father?" I questioned her.

"Yes, once he was your father. But when you see him he will be different." Queen Serenity said. My eyes then reopened. The memory was over. I never knew my parents. I was too young to remember them. I knew that Chronos was my father but all I could remember was the smell of brown sugar.

Then I could smell something. It floated in the air up to my nose. It was a smell from my past, the smell of warmth. The smell was that of brown sugar. Could it really be Chronos, my father?

"It is about time you got here." I heard a man’s voice say. I turned around and saw him. He was as tall as I was. His hair was long in a ponytail and was dark green with black the same as mine. His eyes were the same red-purple that my eyes are. His skin was the same dark shade that mine is. It was like a mirror except he was a man. The man was wearing a Silver Millennium uniform in my fuku’s colors black, white and red-purple. He was looking at an ornate pocket watch. He put the pocket watch into his pocket.

"Chronos?" I asked him.

"Yes, I’m your father." He told me.

"Why have you stopped time? It is the biggest taboo." I yelled at him.

"I wanted to meet you. You have grown into a beautiful princess. You look just like your mother." He said to me. I thought that I looked just like him. "As for the other question it is not taboo for me. I am the God of Time! And I’m taking this door and domain back!" He shouted at me.

"I don’t want to fight you. You are my father." I said.

"Well, for that matter I do not want to fight you either. So instead I’ve set up a game to play." Chronos said and then pointed behind me. As I looked I saw a bunch of cards on the floor. At one end I saw a stack of cards.

"What game is this?" I asked.

"As it is New Year’s Eve I thought we could play a New Year’s game. The game I have picked is Hyakunin Isshu or 100 poems by 100 poets. Whoever wins in the end gets to keep the Door of Time and the keys of time." He told me.

I’ll now explain how we play this game. There are a total of 200 cards. 100 have the first two lines of a haiku on them and the other 100 has the corresponding third line. A reader sits at the end of the room with the 100 two line cards. The 100 third line cards are spread out on the floor. There are two players one on each side of the cards. The reader reads his/her card and the players then find the corresponding card. It is a very fast paced game.

"Who will be the reader?" I asked Chronos.

I then could hear the ringing of a small bell. I looked at the ground and saw the tiny cat Diana. She walked over to the place where the reader sits. "I’m going to." She said.

"Yes, I felt that this small cat had also watched the Door of Time." Chronos told me.

Diana then changed herself into her human form. "It will be much easier to hold these cards in human form." She said.

Chronos and I then took our places on opposite sides of the cards. I set my Garnet Scepter on the floor next to me. "We’re ready." We both told Diana.

I won’t go into all the details of the game. It was fast. I tried my hardest to win. At the last two cards we were tied with 49 each. Only one more and I would win. Diana called it and I found the card first.

"Sailor Pluto wins!" Diana yelled.

"She may have won the game, but I won the war!" I looked at Chronos and he was holding my Garnet Scepter. He had tricked me!

"You can’t use that." I shouted.

"Too bad my princess I was first the only user of time. Now again it is mine!" His eyes glowed red and evil. He held up my Scepter to use it against me. "Now, what are the words to use this thing?" he questioned.

"Dead Scream!" I yelled. The Scepter flew into my hands and my power went towards him.

The power knocked him down. He looked up at me and said, "You wouldn’t kill your own father, now would you?"

"Well, you aren’t really my father. Not anymore! Chronos Typhoon!" I used the power of the Garnet Orb. This power had his name in it, so I didn’t know if it would work on him. The power wrapped around him and then pulled him into my orb.

"That was different." I said to Diana. All that was left of Chronos was his pocket watch. I picked it up.

"Now he’ll never get out to bother you again." She said. Diana then became her cat form again.

"Are you ready to go back?" I asked her. She nodded her head yes. "Please don’t tell the others about this. Not even Small Lady." I told her.

"Cross my heart." She said as she drew a cross on her chest.

We then went back to Raye’s grandfather’s shrine. I unmorphed and got into my place. Diana also got into her place. "Time Begin!" I yelled.

"One!" they shouted. The confetti landed on Ami’s head. She jumped up and laughed at Mina and Lita. Serena and Darien kissed. Haruka, Michiru and I made a toast. I could hear Small Lady and Hotaru’s noisemakers. I looked at Raye and she no longer looked worried. She went to Mina, Ami and Lita to join in.

"This was a great year." I said. Everyone smiled.

Small Lady ran to Darien and he picked her up. He kissed her on the cheek. Serena seemed mad at first, but then she kissed Small Lady too. The three were so happy. Hotaru then ran over to Haruka, Michiru and me. She hugged us and we fell on to the couch. I gave Hotaru the pocket watch. She opened it and it was the correct time of 12:00. Hotaru showed it with delight to Small Lady. Raye gave me a look. I shrugged my shoulders.

We all stayed up the rest of the night to see the first sunrise of the New Year. Small Lady and Hotaru fell asleep before then. We put them to sleep on Raye’s bed with Luna and Artemis. Diana joined them.

Once I laid Hotaru down she muttered this in her sleep, "Brown sugar." I smiled and kissed her on her forehead.

This was the best New Year’s Eve I had ever had. I had more than just friends I had true family. It was the best feeling. It was also the best sunrise I had ever seen.
